The Best Time to Post on Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile posts can boost your local SEO and engagement — if you use them right. Here's when, what, and how often to post.

Luke Bowman·

Most businesses ignore this free tool

Google Business Profile (GBP) posts are one of the most underused tools in local marketing. They're free, they show up directly in Google search results and Maps, and they signal to Google that your business is active and relevant.

And yet most businesses either never post or posted once in 2022 and forgot about it.

When to post

Frequency matters more than timing. Post at least once a week. Google keeps posts active for 7 days before they expire, so weekly posting ensures you always have something visible on your profile.

That said, if you want to optimize timing:

  • Tuesday through Thursday tends to see the most engagement for local business posts
  • Morning (8–10 AM) in your local time zone catches people during their first searches of the day
  • Avoid weekends unless your business specifically caters to weekend traffic (restaurants, entertainment, etc.)

But honestly, consistency beats timing every time. A post every Tuesday at 9 AM is infinitely better than a "perfect" post once every three months.

What to post

This is where most businesses get stuck. They don't know what to say. Here's a simple rotation you can follow:

Week 1: Project showcase. Share a photo of a completed job with a brief description. Before-and-after photos work incredibly well. "Just finished this kitchen remodel in Madison, AL. New countertops, backsplash, and cabinet refinishing."

Week 2: Offer or promotion. If you have a seasonal deal, a first-time customer discount, or a referral program, post about it. GBP has a specific "Offer" post type with start and end dates.

Week 3: Tip or educational content. Share something useful. "3 signs your AC needs maintenance before summer" or "How often should you have your gutters cleaned?" This positions you as the expert.

Week 4: Behind the scenes or team spotlight. Show your team at work, introduce a new employee, or share something about your process. People want to do business with people, not faceless companies.

Repeat the cycle. Four types of content, once a week, forever. That's it.

Photos are everything

Posts with photos get significantly more engagement than text-only posts. And I'm not talking about stock photos or generic graphics.

What works:

  • Before-and-after shots of your work
  • Team photos on job sites or in the office
  • Action shots — someone actually doing the work
  • Finished project photos with good lighting

Take 30 seconds after every job to snap a few photos. Build a library on your phone. When it's time to post, you'll always have something to use.

Use the right post types

GBP offers several post types, and using the right one matters:

  • What's New — general updates, news, content
  • Offer — promotions with a specific timeframe (these get a special yellow tag)
  • Event — upcoming events with dates, times, and details

Always include a call-to-action button. GBP lets you add buttons like "Learn More," "Call Now," "Book," or "Get Offer." Use them. They give people a clear next step.

Does posting actually help SEO?

Yes, but indirectly. Regular GBP posting signals to Google that your business is active. It contributes to the "prominence" factor in local search rankings. It also gives people more reasons to engage with your profile, which sends positive signals.

Posts alone won't get you to #1. But combined with good reviews, complete profile information, and consistent NAP data, they're a meaningful part of your local SEO strategy.

Make it easy on yourself

The biggest reason businesses don't post is that it feels like one more thing on the to-do list. Here's how to make it painless:

  • Batch your posts. Write four posts on the first of the month and schedule them.
  • Use your phone. The Google Business Profile app lets you post directly from your phone in under two minutes.
  • Assign it to someone. If you have an office manager or assistant, this is a great task to delegate.
  • Or let us handle it. We manage Google Business Profiles for businesses across North Alabama as part of our SEO services. Posting, photos, review management — all of it.

The point is: don't overthink it. Just start posting consistently and watch your profile engagement climb.
